SMITHFIELD - Town Councilman Stephen Archambault made it official this week - he announced that he's seeking the Democratic nomination to run for state attorney general next year.

Archambault, who plans a fund-raiser June 2 that an adviser said has already brought in $10,000, confirmed his bid for the office in a statement he issued yesterday, May 27.

The two-term councilman is seeking the office currently held by Democrat Patrick Lynch, who is finishing his second four-year term and cannot run again. Lynch has all but confirmed that he's eying a run for the governorship.

Archambault, once a police officer and now a lawyer in private practice who specializes in defense and personal injury, is also a prosecutor for the Town of Lincoln.
